Wisconsin Drunk Driving
Operating While Under The Influence
Drunk Driving Laws in Wisconsin
Wisconsin law refers to drunk driving offenses as an OWI offense - operating while under the influence; other states refer to the same or similar charge as a DUI, DWI, or OUI.
When a person is arrested for drunk driving, they often times feel as though the situation is hopeless, but it is not. We have won many cases that others thought were surely lost. OWI cases are complex and there are numerous facts that must be considered.

The basis of all drunk driving law is
to accuse, arrest, charge and punish people for driving while under the influence
of anything that may impair their ability to drive (note - the law does not necessarily state that the person be drunk). Alcohol or illegal
drugs can cause impairment, but so can prescription medication and over
the counter medications.

Terms Frequently Used In Wisconsin Drunk Driving Cases
OWI - operating while under the influence. An OWI is similar to a DUI - driving under the influence, or DWI - driving while intoxicated or under the influence.
BAC: Blood Alcohol Content. A BAC result states the percentage of alcohol in a person's blood stream at the time of the test. Police strive to determine the level (percentage) of alcohol in the alleged drunken driver's blood. If the percentage is in excess of the legal limit, police will arrest the suspect; they can also arrest a person for having a blood alcohol content under the legal limit, such as if the person's driving is impaired.
PAC: Prohibited Alcohol Content. Wisconsin's laws include prohibited alcohol content levels. If a driver's tests indicate that he or she has an alcohol limit in excess of the allowable limit, then a citation can also be issued for a prohibited alcohol concentration (PAC) violation.
