Operating While Under The Influence - Drunk Driving

Wisconsin law refers to drunk driving offenses as an OWI offense - operating while intoxicated, while in other states, they are referred to as DUI, DWI, or OUI. The basis of all drunk driving law is to accuse, charge and punish people for driving while under the influence of anything that may impair their ability to drive. Alcohol or illegal drugs can cause impairment, but so can prescription medication and over the counter medications. Attorney Corey Chirafisi represents people who have been accused of driving under the influence.

Terms Frequently Used In Wisconsin Drunk Driving Cases

Drunk driving laws in the state of Wisconsin refer to OWI - operating while under the influence. An OWI is simular to a DUI - driving under the influence, or DWI - driving while intoxicated.

BAC. The blood or breath of an alleged drunk driver is tested. Police strive to determine the level (percentage) of alcohol in the alleged drunken driver's blood. If the percentage is in excess of the legal limit, police arrest the suspect.

PAC. Wisconsin's laws include prohibited alcohol content levels. If a driver's tests indicate that he or she has an alcohol limit in excess of the allowable limit, then a citation can also be issued for a prohibited alcohol concentration (PAC) violation.
